Normally, yes, but considering that RM used a sniping service to grab 
the high bid a few seconds before the end of the auction makes it a 
little fuzzy.  We have no way of knowing what amount he loaded into the 
sniper, but obviously it was sufficient to get the win, and that's the 
name of his game.   And if you are serious about winning bids on eBay, 
it should be  yours, too.

(Of course, you'll have a chance to buy this "pristine from my personal 
collection" receiver again in a couple of weeks!)

Same situation happens at hamfests all the time.  Guy walks past my 
table, dinks with the knobs, makes comments about the asking price, and 
wanders off.   Then he comes back later to see it's been sold and says 
something like "Hey, I was going to buy that!".
