[R-390] Isolation transformer question

Dave asks: "Does one lose the safety of a GFI in this case?"

Yes, you lose protection. The GFI measures a difference in current between
hot and neutral. Hook up the isolation transformer. You can touch one
winding and not get a shock because you being at ground does not complete
the circuit. However, grab both windings and you'll electrocute yourself.
The isolation transformer supplies the current to run a device or stop your
heart, whichever you want to hook up to it. Note that the GFI will still
supply the i.t. with current and not trip as there is no current difference
between hot and neutral.

My solution to power problems in the shack is a Sencore PR 57 Isolation
transformer and variac, nice for BA stuff to turn the line down where you
want it.

Power related note: What do you fellows use for AC line cord on your BA
stuff? I see that more than one device laying around here needs a new cord.
Is there any "premium" cord that looks sharp with that lovingly restored
and G-- awful expensive receiver you've invested so much in?

Thanks, Gene
