[R-390] Isolation transformer question

Hi

The isolation transformer is kind of a work around. The GFI and the
filter caps simply are not compatible with each other. A perfectly
good GFI will likely trip on a perfectly good set of filter caps. If
you ground the chassis (like through the antenna connector) that also
is incompatible with at GFI with or without filter caps involved.

GFI's are great things. If you have an outlet that is near water, it
should be on a GFI. They are not a solution to every problem that
ever comes up. I do not use them in the ham shack. That keeps the ham
shack and the swimming pool a bit far apart, but that's ok by me.
