I have mine set up to ask, and I always assume it is plaintext only
unless I know they can receive HTML format. Then again, My brothers work
account has a firewall that accepts ONLY HTML format. Something to do
with security. He can only send HTML format from this account. Trying to
send plaintext results in the email being swallowed. Does not even
return a non-deliverable message.
And there are a lot of people who do not know how to set up plaintext
and HTML, their email programs automatically default to one or the other.
For example, Dan. If you send me a V-Card file, I would not have a clue
what to do with it. Now, UNI64 I can handle. I can even do HNY128 or
EBCDIC. Heck, I can even do Railroad Morse, ASCII 67, and Vernam! But
send me a a V-Card, and if Thunderbird does not handle it automatically,
I'll never know.
So just maybe it is not laziness or lack of good manners on their part.
Maybe they just do not know how to set up their email program to send
plaintext. Or maybe it is laziness that the reflector is not set up to
handle HTML. Or maybe you are too lazy to upgrade to a free EMail
program that handles HTML. Me, I deride the laziness of all those who
refuse to use Unicode. After all, Mandarin IS one of the six official UN
languages.

Some people are like a Slinky .. not really good for anything,
but you still can’t help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.
