Nope, not off-topic after all.  That spinning centrifugal governor gave 
me an idea, for .... brace yourselves -- yet ANOTHER ballast tube 
replacement.

Basically, you connect one of those centrifugal thing-a-ma-bobs to a 
suitable potentiometer.  (No, not so it spins around like that -- to the 
other linkage of the thing-a-ma-bob that correlates to, uh, 
centrifugal-ness.)  A motor, running off the normally ballast-tubed 
current, spins faster when there's too much juice, then the dingus on 
the thing-a-ma-bob turns the pot down.  Juice too low, slows down much 
and it turns the pot up.

It probably could be made to work -- but keep a kielbasa on hand in case 
of emergencies.
