Maybe the easy way to deal with this, and keep down the length of the "only fools buy on eBay" or "I found my mint one in a dumpster" threads, is to just state how much one is willing to pay in the first email, and not make any reference to eBay at all.
e.g., "WTB: A Wizeroo 2500XT. Fixerupper ok. Don't want to pay more than $25"
Then just sit back and wait for the offers to come rolling in. Yes, sure, you may have to pay $25. And someone will likely pop in and tell you you'll never find one for that price, or that you shouldn't pay any where near that much, etc. But at least it will be a "ham radio" price without the inflamatory eBay part of the discussion.
