There is a large capacitor on the AC line that was intended to reduce RF 
interference from the radio going back up the power line, or vice versa. 
That cap has enough leakage to ground to trip the GFI.  You could disconnect 
the cap probably without a problem.  Or as has been suggested, find a 1:1 AC 
line isolation transformer to run the radio.
