Do those devices actually provide a reduction drive? From the pictures
I've seen, the just look like a turns-counting knob as would be used
on a multiturn pot. If the standard pot knob, they would provide a 1-100
scale over 360 degrees of rotation, thus allowing the BFO to be returned
to a precise setting, but not a gear reduction.

The BFO turns counter knob is direct-drive to the BFO PTO. The turns counter
reads 1-10 for one complete revolution of the BFO shaft but the counter reads
in tenths also so it is like having a scale of 0-100 for one complete
revolution. The turns counter knob is large so it gives a somewhat precise setting but
it is direct-drive. There is sort of a ring and pinion gearset that drives
the BFO turns counter. So if you turned the BFO knob 1/4 turn clockwise the
counter would go to 2.5 or it would look like 000-025. It is not calibrated to
anything so you would still have to find out by trial and error just how many
digits on the counter means +1KHz etc. 73 Todd WD4NGG
