Ron  He may have been using a short antenna BUT you cant get blood out of a
stone , even today you wont find any advertised Hf radios that  have
pretensions to sensitivities that are much better  than what can  achieved
with the 390A in stock standard form it is possible to achieve a sensitivity
of around 0.4 uv, in a narrow bandwidth   he quotes 0.02uv , the noise
voltage alone in a 50 ohm termination is around 0.026uv , and if the input
impedance is higher the voltage is higher,  I'm sorry Ron but his
sensitivity figures VIOLATE the fundamental laws of physics
