I'm sure it's happened - a buddy of mine rescued not one, but TWO  
Hallicrafters SX-73s from the curb.  And another found an R-390A (which 
he kept) and a
"rare" B&W 6100 transmitter (which he gave to me) at a garage sale by an 
ex-CBer.  So it never pays to look!

PS:  Although in this day when people get big bucks selling funny-shaped 
potato chips on eBay, it probably happens a lot less often ;-)
