In addition to Roy's excellent research, I thought the following 
exchange between the Black Radio Seller and Hank KN6DI that Hank posted 
on his nameplate auction a few weeks ago might also be of interest:

    Q: Hi, I am in need of one of your R-390A repro tags, but need your 
advice on which one. I'm restoring an R-390A without a tag (as you 
guessed!). Manufacturer is not clear, though I have an hypothesis or 
three, and in any case, as with most of these radios, there are modules 
from a number of manus, swapped in at the depots. What I have is the 
center-to-spacing between holes for the tag's mounting screws. I need a 
tag with vertical spacing of 11/16" and horizontal spacing of 2 13/16". 
Do you have anything that will fit those spaces? If so, tell me what's

      A: Jan, The long tags are Motorola as far as I know, will check at 
work on Monday. On the R-390 Both Collins and Motorola were long. Hank 
KN6DI
