Very good advice!  Now that you give a "causality chain" right out of
a three stooges episode, I can easily see doing the same thing myself :-).

Of course it's possible that a short in a tube could've taken it out
too.  I found about a half-dozen other resistors in the IF deck out
of tolerance by 50 to 200%, all but this one were in the "high"
direction.
