Atmospheric noise at HF almost always exceeds those fractional microvolt
levels, particularly when the antenna resembles anything superior to an
isotropic wet noodle.
Where the sensitivity comes in handy, however, is for use with antennas
having poor signal-gathering ability. Shielded loop antennas would fall
into that category. The shielded loop can offer good interference-nulling
capability and freedom from susceptibility to e-field hash and trash that is
generated by computers, compact fluorescent lights, and virtually all other
consumer electronics so prevalent and unavoidable in the vicinity of our
listening environment.
