Nothing in regards to ballastubsubstitutionalism nor
anti-ballastubestubstitutionalism, however I have just been notified by an
anonymous informant of some more to the story. An "epilogue", if you will:
In 1926, a young Austrian immigrant named Wolfgang von Hauser-Steinmacher
arrived at Ellis Island. It being Prohibition, he could not find work
making expensive beer steins. He drifted around, then the depression.
Along the way he also learned a lot about a new area -- bakelite, plastics,
etc. Sometime in the late 40's or early 50's, he took a job -- with
Sprague. Years later, some problems arose with his work -- apparently the
legacy followed him. The old man hopped a flight and disappeared into the
Austrian Alps -- or it may have been the Australian outback as some say he
boarded the wrong flight, having been upset and confused at the time,
muttering something like "Naturlich -- iffen you gonna uberheaten und
gefreezen 'em, der gonna geschplitin und geleaken gehaben." (Having been
in the States for so long, his German wasn't so good any more.)
Might have some bearing - on something.
Barry
