All: As I recall it's carboNic acid (NOT carboLic acid, which is terribly
powerful).

Canada Dry seltzer water has the same stuff in it, without the sugar and
caffeine.

This offered as a possible 'wives tale' solution and NOT from a
scientific viewpoint. I'm hesitant to offer this, and I hope I'm
not making myself appear foolish by posting.

You might also try bundling them together with a heavy rubber
band and then standing them up in a shallow pan with Coca-Cola
in it. My wife has used this trick on various things over the
years without harming the base object. I have also seen
something on TV about it. As I recall it has to do with a very
mild acid contained in the Coke formula.
