I run the R-390A at the far end of a long circuit and with a space heater
also occasionally on that circuit I measure 100v . Not really a variac
per se, just a heavily bled series resistance , I guess.
Under the aforementioned conditions I measure 4.6v on the 6.3v (nominal)
tube heater bus.
Voltage that low could cause tube cathode deterioration.
Per my unscientific evaluation technique, sensitivity does not seem to be
affected, but maximum audio output level is significantly reduced.
