[R-390] Don Reaves - SAQ 2004-07-04 (Dumb question)

No R 398 :(.  Planning to use a sound card with a tuned filter ahead of
the microphone input + software. Dumb question - how does one set about
winding the VLF coils - ? Are they just pile wound on a transformer core
(leaving an air gap) like a power supply choke, or are they just like MW
universal windings with lots of turns what do members suggest ? What do
radios like the R 398 use ? 

Sorry for the simple questions, but I suffer from dark ignorance
concerning VLF. Don't even know if VLF from Grimeton will cross the
equator. - Bryce
