Have you checked with Fair Radio?

Another possible source is Leeds in Brooklyn.  Here's the URL:

Has one knob that matches your specs (a little bigger) -- a General Radio
Variac knob -- 6" in diameter for a 3/4" shaft.  A bit pricey at $16.

Might have others -- worth a call.
