[R-390] Where to get one?

Hi
Well you have a couple of options:
1) Go with eBay and more or less expect to become a better electronic
technician by learning how to fix your R-390.
2) Check out the local hamfests and see if you can find one that can be
checked out before you buy it. You may spend several weekends on the
road ....
3) Radios come up from list members from time to time. The most common
time is when the wife has just spent your R-390 money on a new washer
....
4) There are a couple of people who rebuild these radios for a living.
Expect to wait a while and pay a multiple of the eBay or hamfest price.
My strong recommendation would be to dive in on a radio that may need
work. The documentation on these radios was written very well, back in
an era when that sort of thing mattered. Of course if spare time is an
issue that's not a very good solution. No matter who you get it from a
tube based radio will need some work now and then. That's not to say it
will be major effort stuff, but tubes do burn out, lubrication is
required, and an alignment from time to time never hurts.
Take Care!
