They were used heavily in the Korean "Police Action". In one scene 
in the movie "Bridges of Toko Ri" the commander of an aircraft 
carrier is using them, positioned on either side of the flight deck 
with their noses pointing towards the center of the flight deck, to 
assist in maneuvering the ship into harbor by reving up those on the 
appropriate side to shove the ship starboard or port. Interesting.

Could be. I know the F-82 "Twin Mustang" also shot one or more 
down. Nearly ALL F-82s were essentially "used up" in that conflict, 
BTW. Another beautiful plane shot to hell.
