Gents,

Have just re-uped to the R390X reflector and so don't know what's been happening
over the last many months...but...did see this note re the classic "eyebrow" or
Half Moon....

And I too have some classic half mooners...but here is a bit of variation on a
theme..I have them both ways in my stable of R390X's and have refinished panels
too...to the extent visitors can't tell if they are new out of the box . . .which
leads to the next item...

For info...I've just completed a course in Metal Lathe (Engine Lathe) at local Vo
Ed facility...and plan on purchase soon..but...the very long story boiled down to
a nut...is that I've machined a customized dial skirt for the R390A - Motorola -
currently sitting on 40 meter AM freq....the skirt was machined to a diameter
that just clears the lettering above the dial...and has a secondary 'skirt' that
goes between the larger diameter skirt and the knob...the skirt is painted semi
gloss black...with the intermediate diameter skirt gray...The color contrast is
great and looks like Art C himself might have approved it ...

This prototype was a perfect project for me to play with and was the project I
took on for the class...it's machined from mild steel and is "hefty" to match the
mil style of the R390X breed...the grip is fantastic and adds a certain beefiness
to an already premier piece of equipment...

Don't have a digital camera...but if I can borrow one sometime...will post some
place for those interested...

If lathe purchase should develop in the weeks ahead...will add details on "how
to" for those interested...

Best regards to all and glad to be reading current comments about one of our
Favorite Pieces of electronic equipment.

73,

Gene
