Cecil,
I like this list for the same reasons. One of the other Barrys mentioned
that a lot of the past contributors/experts/beehive kickers/storytellers
have left over the past year. Maybe they will drift back here in time.
The SP-600 JX and non-JX seems to be pretty much adopted around here. By the
way, I've moved my JX into the room with the Quantum QX loop for MW
listening. It is amazing all that I can hear with that combination. The
Quantum makes a great radio even greater.
It seems that the attitude of the list is getting back to where we used to
be. I was always encouraged by not only the topics/off topic threads, but by
the natural limits we seemed to have. Learning new things doesn't have to be
restricted to only what is in the confounds of the chassis. I think the
household current wiring and proper grounding thread bears this out. I
sometimes wonder why we don't get into antenna topics more, but that is just
my own thing. The best radio in the universe is just a doorstop without
externals like current and antennas. Some people need to know about cleaning
decks/chassis and dishwashers. Some have sleeping cat problems while others
think they taste like chicken. The Ukkumpucky dreaded and non-dreaded seems
to be a universal puzzler. Just how deadly those meters can be is another
perennial source of questions.
Actually, the sleeping/urinating cat thread came in useful the other night.
I moved the SP into a spare bedroom next to my RBL-5 and Quantum loop. I
didn't put it in the case. My son's cat sleeps in the chair there and the
cat thread made me think about covering the radio with a towel to keep the
cat off in case it ever got curious, or whatever cats get with new, warm
things.
If I have offended anyone with these views, it is unintentional. I don't
seem to be alone in thinking this list is a great group of people. I just
don't want it to become a near death experience as it was recently.
