Hi Cecil:
Not sure to which Barry you refer, but I agree.
However, creating a Premium Tube RX list will tend to dilute things.
I recommend we designate the SP-600 as the "Non-R-390X". On second thought,
let's just stick with SP-600 and post on them if we wanna.
The thing is this: This list always stood out in quality -- even to the
extent of posting an SP-600 question here rather than on the Hammarlund list
where it would seem to belong. Why? Because you stand a greater chance of
getting a good answer. If you get a good answer on the other lists, often
it comes from an R-390 list member.
You see, it's not just about the R-390 -- A or not A, but the nature of the
"clientele" it attracts -- demographics, psychographics, psychometrics,
orientation, inclination, and so on. A good part of this is built into the
nature of the 390 "beast". There is certainly other electronic equipment
out there that is more complex electronically. There is certainly other
mechanical equipment that is more complex mechanically. However, I can't
seem to think of anything that covers both bases for a few hundred bucks
that's not under warranty or otherwise untinkerable.
So, the temptation is there to ask certain off-topic questions, but with the
confidence that someone on this list will have the answer.
Unfortunately, we've lost some of the people who used to make this list
extra special -- some due to excess banter and some due to criticism of
banter and others due to I-don't-know-what.
In a little while, I'm going to test my hypothesis that this is still the
"Ace is the place" to get results on off-topic questions. My apologies in
advance -- just testing. (also runnin' and duckin')
Barry
