Or use a Sorage_Normalizer such as HP-8750 which digitizes a slow sweep XY
signal and displays it as a fast sweep XY out to a scope.

As Bob says, the secret is to sweep VERY slowly. If your scope 
doesn't have a long persistence phosphor, set the scope brightness 
to as bright as you can and still have it in focus, and turn out the 
room lights. Use a flashlight or similar to see the adjustments.
