Brew up a wheatstone bridge circuit with a forward-biased silicon diode
in one leg as the sensing element.  Connect it to your DVM and feed it
a regulated DC supply voltage, calibrate it to 100C in a pan of boiling
water and 0C in a cup of ice water.  Quick, dirty, cheap, and
surprisingly accurate.
