That is partly true. 

Yes, It is in a solid state. So solid, in fact, you 
could drive over it with a duce and a half and it 
will still be usable

But, is it solid state? No, I don't think so. The
components in the ME-9/U, which makes up the 
instrument part of the TS-352, has no solid or 
hollow state devices.  Except for the possibility 
of a pair of diodes back to back across the meter.
