From Apollo 11 onward they took cases of ballast tubes
to the moon and left them there to allow them to bring
rocks and samples back. They also felt that if any hostile
forces, such as Russians or Martians found them, it would
confuse them as to the state of out technological advancement
...since such a tube could not possibly have any obvious use.
