They were used, as I understand it, not necessarily by NSA, for RTTY
reception and allowed precise settability. Others here on the list may know
more about them. They were a generic type of multi-turn knob and the full
range of their adjustment was not usable by the BFO.

Have one and don't use it for my purposes.

             I'm searching informations and if is it possible photos about
MICRODIALS, a sord of knobs with an digital mechanical counter inside, that
I heard were applied instead of BFO knob on R-390A/URR emploied by NSA.
 I founded a box with five of this knobs.
