Of course, the ultimate solution is to not use Windows for
internet/email.  This stuff just sits harmlessly in my inbox...  :-) 
Not an option if you are on a corporate net, of course; you have to use
what the MIS boys tell you to.  I don't even need to use AV software;
no one is writing virii for OS/2 anymore.  Windows is such an easy
target.

Try as they might, the computer is still not a turnkey 'idiot box'. 
You have to learn something about it.  A good antivirus program is not
an option, it is mandatory these days for the Windows platform.  But
that must be supplemented with a working knowledge of your antivirus of
choice, and a willingness to keep it updated frequently and to read up
on what virii are out there.  These guys are getting frighteningly
clever.
