It's an Oldham coupler, which compensates for any misalignment
(well, _some_ misalignment) of the front panel and chassis.
IIRC, Fair Radio has them for R-390-flavored boatanchors, and
for not too much money. I don't know if the 392 and 390 couplers
are interchangeable.
