That's assuming all those pertinent little MB connectors are still in place.  It only takes one to fall off (e.g. the PTO) and the radio will act the same way.

My R-390A puts out nothing but static. The RF and Local do control the
volume
of the static but no signal. Not even from the strong local AM stations.
Speaker and antenna are working fine. The unit was receiving just fine
until I
turned the volume up and noticed the static. The unit was usually kept on
all
the time. Any comments on where to start looking?
