The NEUTRAL is NEVER GREEN: it is WHITE in the US and 
Canada. As an old time electrician, "Green is Ground, the world 
around."

The NEUTRAL wire must never be switched alone either. Only the 
"hot" side of the circuit is ever switched alone, although BOTH 
white wire and hot wire may be switched (together) if necessary.
