[R-390] Removing painted markings?

If it is original paint, it is pretty tough and most cleaners won't hurt it. You can try some of the commercial things like GoofOff or maybe mineral spirits. I wouldn't try anything as harsh as acetone, but ordinary paint thinners are not likely to damage the finish.
CAVEAT: If it is a repaint with Rustoleum, etc., then all bets are off. That stuff dissolves pretty easily.
