FWIW, I fix surface-mount stuff all the time at my day job.  Having
said that, I won't touch the new rigs.  All my friends that have the
new stuff have to send it off to Burghart, or the factory, or wherever
for repair when it breaks.  When my 'old stuff' breaks (rarely), I just
fix it.
