[R-1051] Lamps

The original Grimes lamps are hugely expensive and seem to be one of those
"What were they thinking?" items.

I made new ones by placing a new wire-lead lamp inside the original screw-in
housing of the old bulb after smashing the glass and digging it all out.
This was detailed on Nolan Lee's website but I am not sure whether anyone is
hosting that material anymore. I can't remember the # of the bulb I used
but I bought a quantity from a bulb specialist that has an on-line ordering
system. They were not too expensive and I ruined a couple trying to make
replacements.

The 387 will not work as a direct substitute. Today I would probably
investigate using LED's instead but some LED's will be way too bright, and
experimentation is in order. Remember that the original scheme has the
bulbs in series.

I never thought as a radio enthusiast that I would have to manufacture my
own lamp bulbs.
