[R-1051] 5 mhz standard

Hi Jerry ...
The crystals they used were temperamental and can go into some odd modes
when the temperature of the oven is off, or just because they are
getting old. High precision crystal were quite a work of high tech at
the time!
I found that some of them required some time at the operating
temperature before they'd "click" into the correct frequency. I was
fortunate in finding a bunch of used modules from which I was able to
salvage replacements for a couple I had that couldn't be tricked into
working properly. I also found that defective ovens were not uncommon.
Be sure the oven is working correctly. The little thermistor thing they
use to sense temp can be defective. If it is, the oven might never come
on, or stay on all the time. I was never able to find an exact
replacement for the thermistor they used - but I think something could
be made to work. There are several different versions of these modules -
some much newer than others.
Good luck! These babies are a %^$# to repair, but worth the effort.
