You might want to disconnect one side of the motor from the circuitry to 
prevent back feeding the motor driving electronics.  May not be an issue but 
just in case. If the motor were running though I would think you would have 
heard it.  The gear boxes make a bit of noise...less with no load but still 
enough to be heard I would think.
