Hello Radio-Folks,

First I would like to thank all of you who responded to my inquiry about cables for an R-1051B. I am not sure what I am going to do about them, but the receiver needs some attention first.

It would appear that I have some undesired mixer products or some other sort of interference right on 10 Mhz! Bad place for that sort of thing. It shows up on other frequencies as well, but not all of them.

With no connection to the antenna and the BFO on, I can zero-beat what appears to be a CW signal. I have tried this in two different locations, one of which I know is interference free on other receivers

Has anyone else had any sort of experience with this problem?

Also, I was reading a website about R-1051B receivers that suggested that the stops for the frequency knobs be taken out.

This was interesting to me because the receiver was exactly 20 Khz off on every frequency that I checked. I finally realized that the receiver was tuned to the generator's frequency and that it was a mechanical problem in the chassis. I had ignored the fact that the stop was apparently not working in the 10 Khz knob and that turned out to be the problem. I seems that every time the 10 Khz knob was rotated past the point where the stop would prevent it, the receiver would be off another 10 Khz in frequency. That is, instead of being 20 Khz off, it was 30 Khz off. Then 40, and 50 and so on until it was back on frequency. I do not understand how these receivers can work without the knob stops installed unless you are very careful with your tuning and always know what direction to turn the knobs to stay on frequency.

If anyone knows anything about the problem mentioned above, please reply to the list.
