[R-1051] CPS Problem with "B" Model

Hi Larry
Probably should wait for a more experienced 1051'er to chime in but while
yer waitin'...
As I recall, the flashing light is only a warning - -maybe also due to
legal/gov't contract considerations in view of the guaranteed specs on
stability and frequency accuracy on the R-1051. When you switch into
vernier, you do not have the top stability/accuracy. The flashing light is
an add-on to warn you of that. It probably should be labeled "Caution --
YMMV, kiddo".
And, as I recall, it's just a simple flasher circuit -- an indicator of the
vernier switch position, not anything integral to any other circuit. I also
seem to recall a post from Nolan way back or someone that there's a small
capacitor in the vicinity of the light which when bad results in no
flashing. (Might just be what they used to call a "relaxation oscillator".)
It may or may not be on that board, but you might be able to eyeball it as
it's not far from the vernier control and bulb. Or may be that the bulb is
burnt out if it doesn't light up at all. Anyway, it's a fairly low-tech
situation and fix.
Hope this helps. I think someone has some R-1051 manuals on line. I'll
check where I think I saw some and get back to you if I find them.
