[R-1051] Some Questions

Hi Lloyd,

It's hard to say....It could be anything from a relay that the antenna
lead goes through on it's way to the front end....to synthesizer problems
even though it tunes the proper freq.

It also depends on what you may be comparing the radio to.....1051's are not
the quietest radios....they have quite a bit of internal noise compared to
the older tube gear and also the newer solid state stuff. They employ an
early solid state technology. There are quite a few Germanium transistors
in the Plains and "B"'s. I think that is one of the reasons. The newer
radios...."D"'s and up are rid of most of the Germanium but have quite a few
IC's that can't be bought anymore. I feel like the "Plain" and "B" models
are the most maintainable for the long term to own. They all seem to
perform about the same...around .8 to 1 uv sensitivity once gone through.

I know that don't help a lot but it's really hard to pin down not knowing
any more!

You might start by checking or replacing the tubes in the front end....

As far as the power cord...I would check with Fair Radio sales. The
connector can be bought from Allied electronics and you can use an old
computer cable and build a cord for the radio. I'll warn you though the
connectors are fairly expensive. In the neighborhood of $25....just for the
connector.

Let me know if you want the part #....I stock just enough to go with the
radios I offer for sale after restoration because of the cost!

Cecil...
