Just in time for tomorrow's debut of this new
operating event, Jeff, formerly KB9ZUR, has become
K9ESE, and signed on as a fifth Barber!
This two-hour event looks like it will be a cross
between a sprint and a "foxhunt-type" event, with five
different stations being sought, on three bands.
Stations will contact as many other stations as they
can, getting points for QSOs with anyone, and
multipliers for SPCs and low power.
Additionally, there will be bonus points for each
Barber contacted, on each band. Barbers can show up
anywhere, at any time, and QSY at will - although
they'll probably announce that they'll QSY - for
maximum fun per watt.
If conditions are good, and pileups ensue, the
Barbers may work split, at which point they'll call CQ
ESE UP...otherwise, contacts will be simplex.
All the Barbers will be running five watts for the
contest. Jeff, K9ESE, says he'll be using his "K-1
running 5 watts - Antenna: Inverted L. 45' vertical
section and 60' horizontal section - Power: 75 Ah deep
cycle battery running rig, computer and lights."
Trev, K6ESE, says, "I'll be using the K2 and my 88'
EDZ. The Zepp is hung as a Vee with the apex at 40'...
Was tempted to use the K1 instead as it doesn't get
enough use, so may alternate between the K1 and K2."
Joe, AA4NN, operating with his club's call, K5ESE,
will be running a "K2 and portable center fed zepp,
44ft 300ohm feed line, 22 ft stranded wire on each
leg." Monty, N5ESE, favors a K2 and a 40M inverted
vee. As for me, Lloyd, K3ESE, I'll be operating my
multiPIG+ with a 302' horizontal loop up 50', and/or
an 88' EDZ, flat-top, at 45'.
