One thing my friend did was to use a hamstick
as a counterpoise - he had one for 20 I think it was
with buggered threads and he mounted it on the 
hamstick dipole mount, pointed downward and then
used a good one pointed up - making a vertical
dipole without the need for a wire counterpoise.  Works
quite well for 40, 30 and 20.  To achieve the three bands,
he has a multiple mount and has the three active sticks
mounted upright.  Seems to perform better as a 
vertical dipole because of the low angle radiation
vs the cloud burner of a horizontal situation.
