to Vice President in 2012, and served in this position up to his death.
He was first licensed in September of 1963 as WN9JMO, at the age of
25, and upgraded to General in July of 1964 as WA9JMO. He became a
QCWA Life Member in 1988.
From 1976 to 1978 he was editor of a 14-club Amateur Radio
publication called the Hamateur and has written sporadic articles for
other Ham journals and Senior magazines.
Larry and his wife Wendy, N9PAC lived on a 44-acre Equestrian Horse
Boarding Ranch in Racine, Wisconsin and ran a horse boarding stable
for 30 years in Caledonia. When not heavily engaged in "Horse"
chores, the McCalvy's enjoy traveling to foreign lands with Russia
topping the list as the most favorite place. As well, any place a
cruise ship stopped ranked high on their list. He organized QCWA
cruises in 2001, 2005, 2009 and 2013.
McCalvy served three-years with the United States Marine Corps
1955-1958, and retired from the Army Reserves in 1998, the same year
he retired from the Trucking Industry.
He actively participated in local organizations and served on the
Tri-County Library Board, as well a photographer for the Racine

Wisconsin. With his help the Caledonia Historical Society moved an
early twentieth century train station from Sturtevant to the park on
5 Mile Road in Caledonia.
He helped upwards of seven groups apply for and receive their
501(c)(3) statuses. In the 90s he was trustee on the Caledonia Town
Board, championing small business development. He was the President
of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Council, a consortium of all military
branches, which was the only Wisconsin group to march in Bill
Clinton's inaugural parade.
McCalvy served in the Marine Corps and subsequently in the Army
Reserves as a career counselor. A memorial service for Larry is being
planned for late February.
