QCWA Chapter 119 Activates NPOTA site: Ft. Monroe, VA, NM-32
Final touches are in place for Chapter 119’s outing to Ft. Monroe where
we will operate a special event station for the National Parks on the
Air program (NPOTA) -- NM-32. On the air, we will be supporting the
100th anniversary of the National Park System and historic Ft. Monroe.
Operating with the Chapter 119 call sign, WQ4CWA, we are fielding two
operating positions, one primarily dedicated to SSB and the other to CW.
We will operate on 40, 30, 20, 17, and 15 meters. You can find us on
the air by watching for spots on the telnet spotting networks or by
tuning the bands. Local VHF announcements will be made via the 146.79
repeater. Operating frequencies are (+/- QRM):
CW: 7.030, 10.114, 14.040, 18.098, 21.040
SSB: 7.175/7.230, 14.260, 18.128, 21.260
Set up is scheduled for 8:00 A.M. and we expect to be clear of the area
well before 9 P.M. With good luck, good propagation, and the
cooperation of our members and friends we hope to be on the air
continuously from 10 A.M. (1400 UTC) to 6 P.M. (2200 UTC).
As for amenities, there is plenty of parking immediately adjacent to the
operating area. There is a comfort station (porta-potty) close nearby.
Ft. Monroe is immediately adjacent to downtown Phoebus in Hampton. There
are a Hardees, and a McDonalds at the entrance to Ft. Monroe in Phoebus,
about 1.5 miles from our operating site. Additionally, there is a camp
store at the Ft. Monroe RV Park area, about a mile from our location,
where snacks, fast foods, and camp staples can be purchased. For your
comfort you will want to bring your own chair, a cooler with ice,
water/soft drinks, and snacks.
This outing is planned as fun and fellowship for our Chapter. We have a
great setting close by the Chesapeake Bay. This ARRL Sponsored NPOTA
Program presents a great reason to be on the air. And what a great
opportunity this is for the Southside, Peninsula QCWA members, and any
visitors to our area to get together! A good time is promised to all
who visit the site and participate.
Yours in QCWA …..
