If you want a bank account in the name of the group you will have to have
an EID...

Rick,
If your EID is not recognized as a non-profit you need to double check
how it was filed for. I wasn't involved with the filing for the EID for
our NWCA club - it was filed long before I was talked into taking the
treasurer position - so I can't help you in that. But, do you really
need the EID? Do you make enough money to have to file? My NWCA club
has a thrift shop and makes over $30,000 a year so we do need it. If you
don't need to hassle with it, talk to your club members and find another
way to handle the finances. If you don't have to get involved with the
IRS you don't want to.

Same path that I took, however, the site will not let me register because
our chapter EID is not recognized as a non-profit organization by the
IRS. And that is where the fun starts. You created your log in or
registration in the past. That is where I am having the problems.

Subject: Re: [QCWA Hotlist] Filing IRS Tax forms
I am the Treasurer for a local NWCA club and I file the taxes all the
time. I did not have to pay anything when I registered to file the
taxes. All I did was take our tax number and go to
https://epostcard.form990.org/. Once I registered with that site, they
sent me a login ID and temporary password. Then I was able to log on and
file my taxes. Also, I believe that the limit to what your club income
can be is a little higher than $5,000. For the NWCA club (a 501C4 club)
it is $50,000.
