QCWA Bulletin 2014-021 - Charles 'Chuck' Dorian, W3JPT - Silent Key
It is with sadness we report the passing of Charles 'Chuck' Dorian,
W3JPT, of Issaquah, WA, on June 20, 2014. Chuck was 93.
Dorian was elected to the QCWA Board of Directors in 1996 and served
until 1999.
Dorian was licensed as W1LXO on February 6, 1939 in Natick, MA, and
operated with home made equipment on 40 Meter CW and voice on 5 Meter.
After WW II he served in Coast Guard communications, was on numerous
State Department delegations to ITU in Geneva supporting both
maritime and amateur communications. Upon retirement from the Coast
Guard in 1972, Dorian worked in private industry on maritime satellite service.
Dorian was ARRL representative in Washington, D.C. for 8 years, one
of the fathers of the present maritime communication system and a
founder and director of AMSAT.
Chuck served as a director of QCWA from 1996 to 1999, and was a Life
Member of QCWA.
