I've read many reasons for the Journal going Digital, they are all valid.
I've read many reasons why this isn't necessarily a good thing, they are all valid too.
I've even seen a little finger pointing, which isn't good but hardly avoidable.
At the vey core of this issue are several truths:
The Board of Directors was elected to run the business of QCWA, and they are! If you don't like the decisions they make you are more than welcome to seek election in 2014.
It cost more money to print and ship the Journal than it use to. The cost has increased every quarter for the past several years.
Not all of our members have access to a computer.
What's to be done? This is a excerpt of the email I sent to Chapter 8 this morning:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
QCWA will not be printing the Journal any more. For the active members, it will be a available as a monthly digital magazine on the Members Webpage at www.qcwa.org/members.
We have 2 members that don't have computers or email addresses. Both have been licensed over 75 years. They are W0DKL, Ben Miller and W0KZD, Josh Premack.
Does anyone know a printing company that we could email the journal PDF file to so they could print and mail the Journals to these members?
Please get back to me with the company name, contact information and prices.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 8 has 40 members, I suspect(hope) we will pick up the cost of printing and mailing for these two Life Members. The first step will be to find a local printer.
This might be a service offered by your chapter for your members with the member paying the printing and shipping cost. This service might be a way to increase chapter membership. There are many possibilities.
Good Luck to the BoD as they venture forth into this new way of doing business.
Good luck to us all!
73,
Bob Roske, NØUF
Chapter 8 Secretary
Past President (08-12)
