Dale:
Sorry, You are the third of 5,000 mailed out who got damaged.
When I return from my road trip I will mail you one first class in a
stiffened envelope in early November.
The winter issue will come the way your fall issue did. It's not a problem
except in areas where the USPS "customer care" could be a problem.
There will be announcements in the Winter issue regarding Journal solutions.
I have to tell you I read the Journal on my Kindle Fire, Laptops, 32" and
63" HDTV's, Motorola Droid phones ... and have dumped all of my paper ...
the dust and mildew issue you know already. Sorry you aren't into reading
on the computer.
You can take the PDF off of the website, go to Kinkos or Office depot and
print it out for about $15 for B&W and $70 for color. Best solution I have.
The online Web edition has more content, including some content we cannot
print and mail under US Law regarding content of Non-Profit media.

Jim,
Reading about the shredding issue, I meant to notify you that my Summer
issue got partially torn up by the USPO. It was readable, but a few
articles are goners due to the tearing.
A suggestion, if I may: I noticed that there were no "sticky things" used
to secure the edges of the issue (usually used on 2 or 3 edges of various
publications I receive). With the change to newsprint, I think securing
the edges to keep them from snagging and getting ripped during postal
processing makes a lot of sense. In all of the years that the heavier
cover paper was used, I think I only saw one issue that sufferred postal
damage. I fully expect that the incidence of damaged issues will increase
with the thinner paper unless steps are taken to minimize snags.
I fully appreciate the cost benefits of going to digital publishing, and I
do receive several periodicals in electronic format. However, I don't like
that format as well as I do "hard copy" because I do not enjoy reading from
the screen for more than a few minutes. I end up printing out many
articles from those electronic pubs. Also, because I am busy with many
tasks each day, I frequently forget about those pubs on the computer and
just read either the printouts or those that I still get in printed form.
The printed copies are very portable (no, I do not have an e-reader and
don't want one, either) and handy to take along when traveling. I do
archive all of my "Journal" issues - they are a wonderful resource of
information.
Thanks for all of your work as the new GM.
