One of our QCWA members who is among those who held a ham license the
longest is now a silent key.
Harvey Chase, W4TG, has been licensed for over 80 years, and was a
strong supporter of QCWA. At the Lawrenceville (Stone Mountain) GA
hamfest this past fall, Harvey walked up to our QCWA booth and we had
a very good chat. Any way you look at it, when a 96 year old ham,
licensed for over 80 years, can WALK to a hamfest booth, that is an
accomplishment. At that time, Harvey appeared in very good health.
Arrangements were made to present Harvey with his 80 year certificate
at a meeting of one of the "regular" ham clubs in the Macon area,
since there was not a QCWA chapter there. At the same time, I would
present info about QCWA, and recruit some new members. However,
Harvey's health deteriorated, and we were not able to make that
presentation to him. When he was in the hospital, he asked about it,
and we decided to make the presentation posthumously, if needed, as a
sort of memorial service for Harvey, and that is what will be done. If
you are in the Macon GA area, maybe you will be able to attend that
meeting.
Harvey's obit is included below.
Thanks.
73,
Ken, W8EK
