Hi Bob,
Your information is most interesting.
As a former Clevelander I was lucky enough to have listened to a couple
of chapter 1 members talk about the QCWA while I was a novice on 2 meters
in 1965. Twenty five years later, at the age of 38 I qualified for
membership and eventually started a new chapter here in Fort Myers, FL.
The succession of my call signs are as follows...WN8PXL, WA8PXL and now
K3QC.
In the polling process at chapter 1 did anyone have any idea of what an
associate means? Does anyone know the benefits that an associate would
have? Was there a dollar amount referenced for an associate member? Will
an associate get a copy of the Journal ? What questions were asked by
your MLO's and how were those questions answered? I would like to know
how you made a presentation to your group so I can do the same or better
at my chapter 196 in a couple of weeks.
I might like the idea of a MLO but how does a MLO not feel offended as
opposed to being an invited guest? Is the carriage ahead of the horse, so
to speak?
My best advice is for other chapters to do as you are doing. Invite
guests to meetings/ luncheons. Have on the air meetings if possible.
There are many of us who show up at hamfests and represent the QCWA as a
recruiting effort. I encourage more of that.
I also encourage more advertising in publications and recruiting sponsors
from equipment manufacturers. I encourage more on the air QSO parties to
promote our orgainzation. As an international organization there is very
little recruiting out of the USA, Canada and Germany. Tell me if I am
wrong. As an international orgainzation I feel we could do better around
the world.
In the mean time, my heart says to me that there are basic principles
that our organization must stand for and our bylaws have already answered
the question in total. No associate members has been documented and has
been prresented to the membership already.
